Volenteers

We are always in need of your services. Volunteers are wanted and positions are available now.

Become a Crew Member

Reliable and responsible persons who would like to volunteer to be trained as crew for the operation of both of our two 70ft long narrow boats "St Clare" or "Dandelion".

They are purpose built to carry 12 passengers, which can include the disabled or elderly  4 - 7 hour trips on the nearby River Soar and Canal.

Applicants would need to be available mostly for weekdays but sometimes weekends as well.

Volunteers need to be of reasonable agility and general fitness.

We have an accredited training course, which all our crew are required to attend and pass.

Our operating season is from around Easter to Mid-October, with training sessions during March/April.

"St Clare" is based at Raynsway Marina, Thurmaston and "Dandelion" is based at Pillings Lock Marina, Quorn.

Fully trained 'skippers' and crew operate the boat and load the passengers.

Previous boating experience is useful, but not essential. The short training course will bring out your ability to work safely.

The skippers and crew all give their services voluntarily. A small allowance is paid (per trip) to partly cover expenses.

Particular regard is given to a safe method for embarking handicapped and/or wheelchair-bound passengers.

The "St. Clare" has an hydraulically operated lift between the rear deck and the central gangway, 'Dandelion' has a lift forward of the main seating saloon. Lifts are only operated by the crew.

We have our own engineering and maintenance teams for regular preventative maintenance and running repairs. Other volunteers undertake housekeeping duties, make bookings, arrange crews, do fund raising, conduct training events.

It must be stressed that the crew DO NOT act as carers for the elderly or infirm. If the group require that sort of assistance the carers must be part of the booked group.
