VOLUNTEERS
WANTED
Reliable, Responsible persons (male / female) who would
like to Volunteer to be trained as CREW for the operation of either of
two 70ft long narrow boats St Clare or Dandelion. They
are purpose built, to provide the DISABLED, ELDERLY or
NEEDY 4- 7 hour trips on the nearby River Soar and
Canal.
Applicants would need to be available for mostly WEEKDAYS
but some WEEKENDS as well (possibly 3 to 4 days per month) Volunteers need
to be of reasonable agility and general fitness. We have an accredited
training course, which all our crew are required to attend and pass. Our
operating season is from around Easter to Mid-October, with training
sessions during March/April. The boat St Clare is based at Raynsway
Marina, Thurmaston. The boat Dandelion is based at Pillings Lock Marina,
Quorn.
Fully trained 'skippers' and crew operate the boat and
load the passengers. Previous boating experience is useful, but not essential. as
the comprehensive, but short, training course will bring out your ability
to work SAFELY. A small allowance is paid (per trip) to cover any
expenses.

The skippers and crew all give their services voluntarily.
The training course that the crew must pass helps to maintain safe
practice and ensures that the
boat is operated in a correct and professional manner. The standards
followed are those set by the National Community Boats Association ( NCBA
).
Particular regard is given to a safe method for embarking handicapped and/or wheelchair-bound
passengers. The "St. Clare" has an hydraulically operated lift between
the rear deck and the central gangway, 'Dandelion' has a lift forward of
the main seating saloon these lifts are only operated by the boats
crew.
OTHER volunteer duties.
We have our own
engineering and maintenance teams for regular preventative maintenance
and running repairs.
Other
volunteers undertake housekeeping duties, make bookings, arrange crews,
do fund raising, conduct training events.
